Practice French for DELF and DALF
DELF and DALF both end in a live oral exam with an examiner. ImChatty gives you free French conversation practice to build comfort, then a tutor-led mock oral session that mirrors the real format.
What DELF and DALF actually are
DELF (Diplôme d'études en langue française) and DALF (Diplôme approfondi de langue française) are official qualifications issued by the French Ministry of Education through France Éducation international. Together they cover all six CEFR levels: DELF for A1–B2, DALF for C1–C2. Unlike TCF or TEF, which are typically valid for two years and used for specific immigration programs, DELF and DALF diplomas never expire once earned — they're a permanent qualification, commonly used for university admission, employment, and general proof of French proficiency.
This is practice, not the official exam
ImChatty doesn't administer the official DELF or DALF exam or issue a certified diploma. This page offers free conversation practice and optional tutor-led mock oral sessions — you'll still need to register through an accredited DELF/DALF exam center to sit the real test.
Why the oral component needs real practice
Every DELF and DALF level includes a live oral exam ("production orale"), and the format changes as levels rise — from simple self-introduction and role-play at A1/A2, to presenting and defending a point of view on a text at DALF C1/C2. There's no way to prepare for a live conversation with an examiner except by having real conversations in French, under something like exam conditions.

Common questions
Is DELF/DALF the same as TCF/TEF? No. TCF and TEF are typically used for Canadian immigration (Express Entry) and expire after two years. DELF and DALF are permanent diplomas from the French Ministry of Education, more commonly used for university admission and general certification. See our TCF/TEF Canada prep page if immigration is your goal.
Does this replace the official exam? No. This is free practice plus optional tutor sessions — the official diploma only comes from a registered DELF/DALF exam center.
Which level should I register for? Take the free CEFR placement test first — it gives you an independent estimate of your level before you commit to a specific DELF or DALF exam date.
Is the oral format the same at every level? No — it gets more demanding at higher levels, from simple role-play at A1/A2 to defending an argued position at DALF C1/C2. A tutor session can be tailored to your specific level's format.
